Hi Everyone! My name is Aimee and I blog over at It’s a Beautiful Life.  I am a wifey to one incredible, hot man…who happens to be Danielle’s cousin! So, Danielle and I have the pleasure of being cousin-in-laws! I think we met when I visited Ohio while Zach and I were dating way back in 2009.  Love her and I’m so privileged to talk to you all while she’s away!

As I was brain storming of what to say, I got my intro down, cause it’s easy to tell people your name and who you are right? Right. Then the cursor just blinked at me and I stared back at it.  Nothing came; so I decided to take a walk and think some more. Again, I repeated my intro back to myself; who I was and where I’m from and why you’d want to listen to me talk (er, type).  And then it hit me. Square in the face!

What do we usually say when people ask who we are? I naturally answered with all the things I do: “Hi my name is Aimee, I work at Continuant, I serve in my church’s youth group, I commute to work, I hang outwith friends, I write blogs, I love to watch reality TV…”

But, that’s not who I am, that’s what I do.

Isn’t it easy to get so wrapped up in what we do and forget who we are? Life makes it pretty easy for this to happen to me!

If life is like a sandy beach and the events that occur are like the ocean waves crashing on it, one can get pretty beat up & sunken in & stuck in the things of life, just like some feet in the wet sand.  And everyone who has lived a little said amen.

My life is wonderful. My life is beyond blessed. So hear me now, I am not complaining by any means. I am just speakin’ the truth---life easily makes us forget who we are.  Between work, marriage, family, friends, trips, church, I get caught up in it all, spinning around on the outside of a wheel, hanging on for dear life waking up and doing the same thing over and over again, mindlessly. And we don’t even have kids yet!

Maybe you’re a stay at home mommy taking care of babies, dishes, laundry, cleaning, etc. Maybe you’re the VP of a company wearing pencil skirts and stilettos, in the corporate world. Or maybe you’re a kind-of-newlywed like me trying to juggle your marriage, your friends, your parents, a full time job, serving at church, still making time for fun, finances, cooking good/healthy food, keeping a clean house, oh and maybe the gym….

Phew. I hate to say it, but so often I become a human-doing instead of a human-being.

I love my bible and I love Jesus, so I spend time with both (still learning to make it a habit).  And the other day in our Solid Life reading plan, I read Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, and before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Reading that verse was like Jesus sitting me down, knee to knee, looking me in the eyes and saying “Aimee, who you are is not what you do. Slow down and remember who you are; you are mine.”

That was like a refreshing glass of cold water on a hot day.I don’t know about you, but I need to be reminded of that. A lot. What I do will change. Where I work will change, where I serve will change, I will not be obsessed with watching reality TV forever (hopefully), but who I am…that should always be the same. I am a daughter of the King; loved, treasured, called, chosen, beautiful, captivating, needed, wanted. My purpose from comes from him…not what I do. What I do should just be an extension of who I am. And nothing else.

Being brought back to that place is like putting my feet back on the solid ground, like going from the outside of a spinning wheel to the center…life is still turning, things could still get crazy, but as long as I stay in that place, the middle of the wheel, and remember who I really am,who I am supposed to be, who my God formed me in the womb to be, I’ll be okay.

Jesus is my rock in the midst of the sinking sand of life. He reminds me of who I am. And sends me out again to keep living the life he’scalled me to live; always standing with open arms for me to run into.

I think it'd be safe to say a few or more of you ladies would raise your hand and say "yup, totally me, too" after reading this. If that's you; take a deep breath once in a while. Pause for a moment, stop and smell the roses for a moment. And I’ll try to do the same. :)

If you’d like to hear more of our crazy life, we’d love to have you!
