Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone! :) I don't celebrate Halloween because of the ghosts and spirts. I don't even really celebrate Halloween. It's just a time to dress up and get yummy candy for me. I won't be doing anything this year because our trick-or-treat was on Sunday and I was too busy shopping!

Have a great day!

Tutorial Tuesday {Personalized Est. Sign}

Materials Needed:

1. Canvas {your choice of size}
2. Ruler or Straight Edge
3. Paint {your choice of color-I used acrylic paint}
4. Paint Brush
5. Tape of some sort
6. Clear Glue
7. Glitter or other embellishments
8. Pencil

First you're going to mark off your lines. I marked my first one at 3" then tape off.

My ruler is 3" wide so I just measured down another 3" and taped off again.

Next I measured down 5" and made another line. Then another 5" and made my last line.

Really it's up to you where you want your line placement. I just liked it this way. It took me a couple times to figure out how I wanted to do it.

Decide where you want your words or writing to be. I wanted two lines of writing so I spaced them according to what I thought looked right.

I didn't take pictures of this because it took me a million times to figure out where I wanted to lettering and the spacing, how I wanted to writing to be, big or small, ect. But I sketched out in pencil where I wanted my letters to be. Make sure you do it light enough that your paint will cover it.

I went for the smudged look so I painted my letters on with a pencil eraser and it made it look a little rubbed on there. It's not perfect and I love that about it!!

My 1 got a little more smudged than I wanted, so I let it dry and erased it with an eraser. Worked fine for me.

I love all of my followers even though I don't know most of you personally. There are a few of you out there that I have connected with on a personal level and I couldn't be happier. I would love to do that with all of my followers. I have expressed this before, but still haven't found a way to do so in a way that I'm satisfied.

I have started returned comments through email and that has helped A TON!!!

Leave it to yourself

I have been dealing with this a lot lately. It seems like I hang on to people who drain me! I'm tired of always wondering what someone else is going think before I make a decision about something. Would this person get offended, would this person get mad, what is this person going to say, am I going to have to exlain this, how much flack am I going to get for buying this or living here...on and on! I'm tired of it...literally. It makes me tired!

I want the decisions that my husband and I make to be our decisions. It really shouldn't matter what other people think. We ask our parents for advice quite a bit, both Mike's and mine and we value their opinion greatly! Some times we take the advice sometimes we don't. Ultimately, it's our decision though. Our parents respect that and understand that. But, some people don't. We may ask you for your opinion but that doesn't mean that we're going to go with what you say....and that is ok! I wouldn't expect someone to make a decision off of what I say. If they are seriously asking my opinion then I will give it to them. I don't give my opinion usually unless it's asked for.

I'm not a fan of people who talk down to other people. I don't like when people think they are better than you or that they have the best ideas. It wears me down and makes me not want to be around them. I don't want to be like that!! {family and friends please tell me if I am} I would never want to make some one feel little because they have a different opinion about something than me.

Two people can have the same opinion or totally opposite opinion and either way is ok. {in my opinion :)} When you get married the only person's opinion that should matter is your spouses. The decisions you make are yours and your husbands and you have to live with them. Stick with that and you won't have fights about it and no one will have to choose sides!

I want to be free from this. I know it matters what others think and you don't want to take it to the extreme. You need to take care of yourself and be presentable, but when it comes to decision making, be careful who you listen to. You will be the one that has to live with the outcome, not them!

Winter Project {Master Bedroom}

{all images found on Tumblr}

I am in love with all of these pictures. I've decided that this winter I'm going to redo our bedroom/move the bedroom upstairs. We live in a bungalow, so we have one big room all the way upstairs that I want to turn in to our bedroom. It's huge and I would loooove to make it roomy and romantic. I love the curtains hanging from the ceiling over the bed and the pink and grey color combination. We have grey walls in our room now that are perfect and would go great with this color. I just have to paint the walls upstairs the same color.

I can't wait. I will take pictures along the way. Oh...just a little glich in the system...I have to convince my husband! :) Shouldn't be too hard!

Friday Letters {10.19.12}

Dear Husband, you are the man of my dreams. Even when I find your dirty socks shoved down at the bottom of the bed. I'm going to draw you a map to the laundry shoot.
Dear New Hair Color, I'm in love with you. If you could please not fade and stay exactly how you are alllll winter, our relationship would be perfect.
Dear Fall, you're supposed to be a little warmer than winter right? Ok, that's what I thought.
Dear Indian Summer, we really need you to come because we're getting a new roof put on our house and it needs to seal.
Dear Diet, I talk about you a lot! Work with me please, not against me.
Dear Stomach, I promise you will "shrink" soon and you won't be so hungry. The sooner you do the sooner you can stop growling at me! It's for your own good. I promise!
Dear Quincey Cat, your eye is not feeling good. If you don't make it better yourself, I'm going to have to take you to the vet and you're not going to like it. You never do.
Dear Husband, can we just sit all weekend and not do anything? Literally sit and stare at the wall. I need a breather.

Happy Weekend everyone! Sit and stare at the wall for a while!? Sounds wonderful!

Current Crush Thursday {Bath & Body Works Fall Candles}

I love fall in general, but a good fall smells just makes for the perfect day. I love to light my 3-wicks and just sniff 'em in. {a little weird I know} Right now, I have apple crumble and pumpkin caramel latte out in the house. I have pumpkin upstairs and apple downstairs. Can't mix too many smells. They are really strong too. I could light one and it could make the whole house smell amazing!!!!!!!
I think my next investment is going to be the salted caramel. What do you think? Salted caramel candle with a salted caramel latte from Starbucks. Yum.

They are a little pricey but definitely worth the investment. I always wait until they have the 2 for $20 deals...then I stock up! :0/

Happy Thursday!

The First Time...

So, on Saturday I shot my first wedding. {disclaimer: I'm not a professional photographer, nor am I trying to be at this point} I happen to just be someone who has more than a point and shoot camera with a flash. I don't have all the big fancy lenses {I have three} or the big fancy lighting equipment {which I found out is important when you're shooting in a HUGE church with yellow walls. {hello yellow cast on ALL of the pictures} Not to mention I found out on FRIDAY morning that I had to take the pictures. {medical emergency with her other photographer}YIKES!!!!!!

Anywho, I thought I would share some thoughts about the day. Well, actually let me back up to Friday night, the bachelorette party. We went to the fair for the night and we had TONS of fun! Some free rides, scavenger hunt, and food! So, I didn't get home until about 1:30-2, {Saturday morning} had to be back up at 6 AM, {because I live 1/2 hr away from where the wedding was} start taking pictures at 8, {hair and make up} go to the church and take pictures of the other girls getting ready, formal pictures of the guys, {umph} pictures of the dress, bride getting ready, formal pictures of the girls, and then THE WEDDING!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sure all of you pro's out there know what it's like to shoot your very first wedding. Ok, I would hope you all would have some experience too so that you know what to set your camera on and the flash and all that business. Well, typically I stick to pictures outside...better lighting, no noise, ISO and shutter speed are easier to figure out, all of that jazz. Well, in a NO light church with yellow paint on the walls, you can imagine what my insides were doing the whole time. Flip flops.

Then we went to the reception and had a blast. I did get to enjoy myself some while at the reception! Overall, I was taking pictures for 13 hours. But seriously, I wouldn't trade it for anything! I got to see the whole day, every detail, and try to capture it for her. I did the best I could and I'm pleased with most of them. A lot of them have A LOT of noise though. So, I need to work on that if I ever want to pursuit this any further. We shall see. I may stick to outside portrait shots?!!? haha...just kidding!

Let me know what ya think. Oh, just another side note....these are not edited. I haven't gotten that far just yet. I wanted to wait for her to see what she thinks about everything before I put the time and effort in to all that!

Tutorial Tuesday {Pumpkin Cookies with Cinnamon Icing}

It's Fall Y'all! {I'm not from the south}
You know what that means...PUMPKIN everything!

Materials Needed for Cookies:
1. 1 Box Spice Cake Mix
2. 1 c. Pumpkin Puree
3. 1 egg
4. 1/2 Stick of Butter
5. Cookie Sheet
6. Wax Paper {optional}
7. Flour {optional}
8. Medium bowl
9. Some sort of mixing utensil. {I use a fork}
10. Spatula to scrape the sides

Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees.

Ok, I may have went a little overboard because you only have to do one of these, but I like to be on the safe side. Either line your cookie sheet with wax paper or sprinkle with flour. I like to use the wax paper because I can just slide it off of my cookie sheet and leave the cookies on there to cool.

Dump your cake mix in to your bowl.

Then add your pumpkin puree. {1 cup}

Next, your egg. {1}

Mix with your fork until all ingredients are just combined. You will have some cake clumps left, that's ok. It's better to under mix than over mix. Your cookies will be less "cakey" that way. But if you prefer to get all the lumps out, do it now.

You can see the clumps a little better here. Scrape the sides of the bowl to make sure you get all the cake batter on the bottom.

Drop the batter on to your cookie sheet. I just eye it up. I think it's about a spoonfull, but I use the fork that I mix it up with so I don't have to dirty a spoon. {lazy, yes!}

You can keep them pretty close together, because they don't spread out. They are more like drop cookies.
Bake for 10-12 minutes depending on your oven.
Mmm k. This is the difference between leaving your cookies in 10 minutes or 12 minutes for my oven. Left, bad. Right, good!

Materials Needed for Icing:
1. 1 Stick of Butter
2. 4 c. Powdered Sugar {confectioners}
3. 1/4 c. milk
4. 1-2 tsp. Cinnamon {depending on taste and how cinnamony you like it, add more or less}
5. 1 tsp. Vanilla Extract {helps offset the cinnamon...totally optional}
6. Mixer
7. Spatula for scraping the bowl
8. Spatula for actually icing the cookies, or other icing utensil

Beat the whole stick of butter until creamy. I used the mixer for this..it's a lot easier this way!

This is what it should look like after you're done beating the butter.
Add your 4 cups of confectioners sugar. Then your cinnamon.
Add your milk a little bit at a time. You don't want your frosting too runny or too dry. If you need to add more milk do it little by little. If you add too much milk it's ok you will just have to compensate and add more confectioners sugar.
This is what you should have after you add all your ingredients in. It should be stiff but not too stiff that you can't spread it. I like mine a littlel on the runny side so it oozes over the sides of the cookies. You'll see later.

Time to spread 'em. Take your little spatula {or whatever you are using to ice with} and get a good glob and spread it around on your cookie.

Here's the finished product. If you notice my icing has kind of run down the sides of the cookies. This is how we like it in our house. You don't have to add that much icing or keep it that runny. We just like lots and lots of gooey icing!
