7 Q's with Gentri Lee {9.28.12}

my "neice" Aeralyn goofin'

1. Describe your perfect day.
**Any day with my husband is a perfect day. If I could go anywhere or do anything, I would go to a private island where no one would find us and just be alone. We always have "noise" around us and it would be nice to just be "quiet"

2.What was something that you were afraid of as a child?
**Sleep. I had nightmares when I was little and I didn't ever want to go to sleep because I knew what was happening. Then I found God and he completely took them away. I don't have nightmares anymore.

3. What's something you're afraid of today?
**Not being able to conceive another baby. After having a miscarriage, I think that's a huge fear!

4. Would you rather be obsessed with yourself or someone else?
**Oh my...hmmm. Someone else probably. If you're obsessed with someone else people will more than likely still want to be your friend. If you're obsessed with yourself no one wants to be around you!

5. What is a favorite restaurant that you could visit over and over and never get sick of?
**Wendy's! I will never get sick of that place. I know it's not really a resaurant, more of a fast food place, but it's delicious! I get sick of other places real quick! Oh....maybe the Texas Roadhouse!

6. What is one food you used to hate but now enjoy?
**This is a problem. Once I hate something, I don't retry it! I'm a very very very picky eater. I don't venture too far out of my range!

7. Fill in the blank: Star ________.
**light, star bright, first star I see tonight.

Tutorial Tuesday {wooden wedding banner}

This banner is from Windrosie {Etsy}
So my cousin got married this past weekend and really wanted this banner for some of her pictures. I have made/bought something crafty for every wedding I've been to recently. I was going to buy this for her, but of course I found out a week before the wedding this is what she wanted. Plus, I thought it looked easy enough to make.

Materials Needed:
1. Letters of some sort and one heart shape. I used 4" wooden letters from Joann Fabrics. I thought these would hold up better than paper.
2. Twine or rope
3. Paint. I used acrylic, but you could use any paint you'd like.
4. Paint brush
5. Glitter {optional}
6. Drill and 5/32 drill bit. {the bit size will vary depending on the thickness or your twine or rope}
7. Handy Dad/Handsome Husband {to drill the holes} {also optional}

Mark your letters and heart shape where you want your holes drilled. There is really no rhyme or reason with marking them. I used a ruler to get them semi straight, but just do your best. The letter shapes are so different it's hard to do exact measurements down and across.

Have your dad {and or husband} drill holes where you marked. If you have talented men, they can drill through letters that have multiples at the same time. More than likely the wood will split a little because the wood is cheapy wood! You don't want your holes too much bigger than your rope/twine because they will slide and move if you do. You kind of want them snug. It will be a little bit of a pain when you're stringing them, but it's totally worth it!

Start painting your letters. I put two coats on the front of the letters and one on the back. It's up to you if you want to pain the back of the letters or not. Make sure you pain the sides though, they will show! Immediately after you paint the second coat on, sprinkle on your glitter. You could use glitter paint here if you wanted to, I just didn't like the consistancy of the glitter paint so I did it seperately. I used my paint brush to even out the glitter so it wasn't all clumped in one spot.

Lay the letters out to dry. Wait until the letters are completely dry before you string them. If you don't, your paint will rub off on your twine/rope.

I didn't take a picture of this, but wrap tape around the end of your twine/rope so it's easier to feed through the holes. This is optional, but makes life a lot easier! :)

Start by putting the end of your twine/rope down through the first hole on the "W." String the twine/rope behind and up and out the back of the hole on the "W." Repeat for all letters.

I will repeat this...make sure you are going down through the top of the hole and stringing behind so your twine/rope doesn't show on the top of the letter.

This is what it should look like from the back.

Here is the finished product. I gave it to her for her bachelorette party so she'd have it for pictures that day. Little did I know, I would be taking the pictures.

September Birchbox Review

Well, I did it. Finally signed up for Birchbox and am in love! It's so fun to find that little box in the mailbox. I open it up like a kid at Christmas, tearning into it to find what goodies I got this time. This is my second month getting a birchbox but I didn't want to start doing posts about it until I got the second one to make sure that I wanted to stay interested.

If you haven't signed up for your Birchbox, you should! It's so fun!!

I will mention one product from last months box because I am in love with it!!

this is just with regular mousse
this is with Miss Jessie's.

 Anyways, back to this months review! I liked most everything, but there were a few things that I'm not fond of.

This tea for example. I don't drink tea so it's not beneficial to me. I'm sure it would be good for someone who likes tea.

So, this is probably my favorite thing that I got this month. It's Boscia's Oil-Free Nightly Hydration Creme. It's wonderful. I would honestly pay the full price for this stuff because it is wonderful. I didn't take any pictures of before and after because I'm not comfortable with that yet, buuuut take my word for it....it's awesome! It's comes in at $36.00 for 1.4oz.

"Twirl" by Kate Spade has a good smell to it, but just not one that I would wear every day. It smells like a lotion that my grandma used to use when I was younger. It's not like an old lady smell, but more of a lotiony feel/smell to it. I would not spend the $80.00 for a 3.4oz bottle of this!

Oh, the nail polish from Color Club. I love it...the only problem {which is the case with most nail polishes} is that you have to put multiple coats on in order for total coverage. It's an awesome color though.  {p.s. don't mind my awful nail painting job....I'm terrible at painting my own nails} I can't seem to find this specific color, but It's $8.00 for the full size. I don't know that I'm willing to pay that much for nail polish, but I'll enjoy this while it lasts!

Jouer Matte Moisture Tint. The name alone sounds chic doesn't it? I honestly haven't used this yet. I'm not much of a foundation person and when I do use it, it's powder. I break out VERY easy, so I'm always afraid to try something new. Maybe on the weekend.
Either way...it's $38.00 for the full size! I can't tell ya whether or not its worth it yet.

The Twistband I used once. It seems to work ok. I didn't wear it long enough to see if it left a bump in my straight hair or not. They claim it's not supposed to tug on hair causing a headache or leave that crease in your hair. Either way it's comfortable and fun! They are $10.00 for a set of 3.

They also sent a $25.00 gift card to Madewell. This is an awesome thing but most of their stuff is a little pricey and this is off your order of $75.00 or more. I don't think I will be using it. But it's awfully nice! If you would use it, email me {theordinarywifeblog{at}gmail{dot}com} and I'll gladly send it to you or just give you the code if you want to use it online.

Pretty successful Birchbox overall! I always love getting stuff so anything is good to me! And all of this for just $10.00. Perfect!

7 Questions with Gentri Lee

It's Friday, which means 7 Question's with Gentri!!! This is a great, hilarious way to hook up with some new friends and read their super funny responses to her questions.

sorry this is poor quality, but this is my husband and me
being ourselves! :)
1. Do you ever have reoccurring dreams?
**Yes, they are usually scary and something I don't want to dream about. I can actually make myself dream about something if I lay there and think about it long enough until I fall asleep. Or wake up from a dream and fall back asleep and continue where I left off. Strange.

2. It's the first day of Fall (or Spring for you southern hemispherers) in a few days, what are you looking forward to most?
**Hoodies and being able to enjoy hot coffee drinks again! I love leaves and decorating for fall.

3. Because a lack of coordination, would you rather not be able to tie your shoes or cut your own food?
**Tie my shoes for sure because you can always buy cute flats or slip ons. Although...if eating was an issue I'm sure it would force me to lose weight....so maybe the latter!
4. Would you rather live in a house made entirely of glass or a house with no windows?
**A house full of glass. I would absolutely love it! My husband would hate it! I love having the windows/curtains open. It's so freeing!
5. Would you rather walk on you toes or heels forever?
**Oh, I like this question...it's challenging! I would pick my heels. Imagine if everyone walked on their toes...we would all have HUGE calf muscles. It's a lot more comical to watch people walk on their heels.
6. What's your favorite sense? (you have 5 btw)
**Another great one! I would pick touch. Can you tell what my love language is? I love the sense of touch. I love all my senses and I thank God I have all of them!
7. What's your favorite movie quote of all time?
**Excuse me....Flow. What's soup de jour.
    Its the soup of the day.
    Mmm, sounds yummy. I'll have that.
Dumb and dumber...classic. It's hard to pick just one. There are so many inspriational quotes. It's hard to think of one on the spot tho!

Current Crush Thursday {Fall Sweaters}

Here is my slogan for the fall and winter....

"Everything is BETTER with a SWEATER"

So, that's my crush this week. Sweaters. I am anticipating the day when I can wear a big sweater all day with some tights and curl up on the couch under a snuggly blanket with a cup of coffee and not move all day.
Ok, back to reality. I love all the fashions that come a long with big sweaters now a days. I love the comfy cozy look, but the classy polka dots with a button up underneath are too cute!

What are you crushin' on? I love this link up...I hope it stays active! Make sure you're going over and adding your link. Just because Danielle is taking a break from it doesn't mean that the great ladies hosting it aren't doing as good of a job!

Tutorial Tuesday {Fluffy Scrambled Eggs}

Well, hello lovelies. I haven't done a food tutorial before so I thought I would do one today. Something super simple and easy. Many of you I'm sure already have the routine down for scrambled eggs...they aren't very hard. Either way, I'll show you the way I make them and maybe you can take something from it.
Materials Needed:
1. Skillet
2. Fork or Whisk
3. Flat Wooded Spoon
4. Bowl
5. Eggs {of course}
6. 1/8 c. Milk
7. Cooking Spray {forgot this when I took the picture}

 Crack the eggs in the bowl. How many eggs you crack will depend on how many you need/want. I have 4 eggs here because I'm making breakfast for my husband and myself. 2 for each of us.

 {Side note: I also use cage free brown eggs. They are organic and taste WAY better. Trust me! I told my co-workers about them and one girl came back and said she bought them and used them in her meatloaf and it tasted totally different...better!}

I use the whole egg for my scrambled eggs. If you want to be super healthy you can separate the eggs and just use the whites if you want.

Don't throw away your egg shells. You can put them in your flower beds and gardens. They help to keep slugs away and also give nutrients to the soil.

 Now it's time to beat those eggs. I use a fork, but you can use a whisk if you would like. That would probably put more air in to them. Whatever you prefer.

This is what it should look like after you get done whipping them together.

Now it's time to add your milk. I use about 1/8 c. I think if you use more your eggs will be run and if you use less, your eggs will be dry. There's a balance...fluffy is what we're going for here!

Now it's time for the wooden spoon! {all the kids run and hide-do parents even do that anymore?}

Anyways, I use a flat wooden spoon. Mostly because I don't want to scrape my pans, but also because it's easier to chop up the eggs with instead of a rounded spoon.

Eggs in a skillet. This is when I first poured them in. I let eggs cook on the bottom until a whole layer is cooked. Then I start breaking them up. I seem to have more success this way instead of constantly moving them around. It's sort of like you're making an omelet.

Here's what it looks like after I let the whole bottom layer cook. I start moving them around then so the other eggs have a chance to fry. Doesn't look too appetizing right now does it?!

Progress. At this point I constantly move the eggs around so they cook evenly and don't get brown spots on them.

When the eggs are a little runny still, I take them off of the burner and just let the skillet finish the cooking. This prevents brown spots and over cooking.

Now it's time to enjoy those fluffy scrambled eggs with some toast, a banana, and a tall glass of milk.

Spread the Polish {swap}

lala Lists

Hey all, it's time to link up and reveal my swappy goodness! My partner was Kelly and she blogs over at Kelly Elizabeth the blog.

She sent me two colors...Pink Shock and Orange Fix. I LOVE them! She also sent me two nail files! I haven't used the files yet. I need to desperately but I just don't allow myself the time to sit and pamper myself like I need to!! Sigh...too many other priorities I guess.

Kelly was a great partner. I hope she LOVED the ones I gave her as much as I did!

Does this mean....

Alright folks...I "think" I'm getting older! :) Sigh.

*I can't lose weight like I used to be able to...sure can find it though.
*I don't heal as quickly when I hurt myself.
*I hurt myself.
*I have to go to the bathroom more frequently.
*I would love to stay in my pjs all day.
*My husband and I sit at home all weekend and play Rummykube. {enough proof right there}
*I've seen almost every new movie that's out on DVD.
*We just sold our Scion Xb because I thought it was a teenager's car.
*I hate when I have to wear high heels.
*Don't know half of the new songs on the radio when I turn it on. {that's possibly because I'm a country fanatic and don't seem to care about anything else}
*Would rather get ice cream than go on a walk {ok maybe that's called being fat instead of old}
*I'd rather go out to eat than cook. {again...fat or old?}
*Go to diners for breakfast on the weekend.

Ok. I think there's enough evidence there to convict me of "getting older." I'm not saying that I'm old by any means because for goodness sakes I'm only 26 and have a long life ahead of me. But what I'm saying is...I'm not a teenager or high schooler anymore. I can't and don't want to do some of the things that I did before.

Sometimes I think I can still do the things I did and end up getting hurt. I fell last weekend on my roller blades and brusied my tailbone pretty good and it's taking forever and ever amen to heal! Ugh. Oh well, I'm going to embrace getting older and stay positive about it because I don't want to one of those older people who just gives up.

No cutting of the hair for me, no coffee or card clubs. No bingo {for now} and elastic waisted polyester pants. You know the ones I'm talking about...

Embrace what ever age you are and live life to the fullest! No being bored, there's so many things to do and places to see!

Look how sad I look in this picture. This will not by my face when I'm that old. How miserable...and I think it makes you look older and uglier! Smile!

YIKES! Look at those bags!

Current Crush Thursday {Halloween Decor}

I'm loving all of the DIY Halloween Decor on Pinterest this year! I love Pinterest because it gives me so many ides to expand on. Most of the time I find something I like on there and turn it into my own creation with the base idea.

Either way. Aren't you in love with it? I especially love the monster door and the spider pumpkins!

Is it too soon to start  decorating yet? It's not even the first day of fall yet?!?!? My husband says yes, it's too soon! :0/ boo! {hehehe}

What are you crushin' on lately!? Link up with Danielle and Kristen for Current Crush Thursdays!!
